The Challenge
Great Places Housing Group required a visionary Chief Property Officer to join its Executive Team at a time of growth, strategic renewal and regulatory change. This senior leadership role encompassed responsibility for asset management, building safety compliance, carbon reduction, repairs, facilities management and materials supply across a portfolio of over 25,000 homes.
With a forward-looking corporate plan and an ambition to become a data-led organisation, the brief demanded a leader who could deliver cultural and operational transformation, enhance customer satisfaction and meet complex statutory obligations. The successful candidate would need to work collaboratively across internal teams, regulatory bodies and strategic partners to ensure Great Places remained a modern and resilient housing provider.
The search was further shaped by the evolving legislative landscape, net zero targets and a drive for stronger governance across the sector.
Our Approach
We worked closely with the Chief Executive and Board to understand the strategic direction of the organisation and the leadership profile required. Our in-depth role briefing process allowed us to develop a clear narrative and value proposition that would attract sector-leading talent, as well as those from adjacent industries who shared a commitment to purpose and service.
Our campaign combined:
- A targeted national search supported by tailored outreach and storytelling & video content to reflect the unique purpose and scale of the role
- A diverse longlist of talent drawn from housing, infrastructure, local government and regulated environments
- Behavioural assessments and structured stakeholder interviews to ensure values alignment and leadership readiness
- Sector intelligence and benchmarking to support Great Places with robust and confident decision-making
Throughout the process, we maintained a close partnership with both client and candidates, offering honest feedback and market insights to ensure a strong appointment with long-term potential.
Our Impact
The successful candidate brought extensive experience in housing strategy, asset compliance and organisational transformation. Their track record of improving service outcomes, fostering high-performing teams and delivering sustainable property solutions is already contributing to Great Places’ goals.
This appointment has strengthened the Executive Team and equipped the organisation to:
- Enhance the quality and safety of its homes
- Deliver on net zero and carbon management priorities
- Improve customer experience across responsive repairs and facilities
- Build commercial and operational resilience across the property directorate
The new Chief Property Officer has quickly established credibility and influence, working in partnership with internal teams and sector stakeholders to build the next phase of Great Places' service offer.
