The Challenge
Accent Housing, a national housing provider with a strong community focus, needed a Director of Governance, Regulation, and Assurance to strengthen its governance framework. This newly structured role evolved from a previous executive position, bringing greater emphasis on governance, assurance, risk, and legal oversight. With a commitment to maintaining its G1/V1 regulatory ratings and providing safe, sustainable, and affordable homes, Accent required a leader who could manage complex regulatory demands, oversee risk and assurance, and drive continuous improvement.
The challenge was to find someone who could work effectively with strong personalities within the existing team, secure buy-in from stakeholders, and elevate governance from a compliance function to a core part of the organisation’s strategic direction. The ideal candidate needed to be an expert in governance and assurance, a trusted advisor across the business, and capable of making governance relevant and accessible.
Our Impact
This appointment strengthened Accent Housing’s governance function, providing clear leadership in regulatory compliance and risk management. Within the first year, the new Director was responsible for assessing team capabilities, establishing stronger relationships with the regulator, and becoming the key point of contact for governance and assurance matters. Their ability to engage with senior leaders and integrate governance into the wider business ensured a more strategic and collaborative approach.
