Non-Executive Director, Housing Finance, Incommunities

As one of Yorkshire's largest housing providers, managing over 22,000 homes, Incommunities was delivering an ambitious Corporate Strategy underpinned by significant investment in customers, assets, development and digital transformation. To support these ambitions, the Board recognised the importance of enhancing its financial governance capability with a leader able to provide independent oversight of financial strategy, treasury management, risk, investment decisions and long-term financial resilience. 

The successful candidate needed to bring executive-level financial leadership within a regulated environment, coupled with the ability to challenge constructively at Board level, balancing commercial discipline with customer outcomes and social purpose. The appointment would strengthen oversight across business planning, funding, value for money and organisational sustainability as Incommunities continued to invest in its homes and communities. 

The process resulted in the appointment of Rajan Sharma, a highly accomplished finance executive with extensive leadership experience across housing and financial services. 

As Director of Finance and Risk at Futures Housing Group, Rajan held executive responsibility for Finance, Procurement, Risk and Assurance within a G1/V1 housing association managing approximately 10,700 homes. His responsibilities included business planning, treasury, long-term financial strategy, regulatory reporting and organisational risk management. 

During his executive career, Rajan successfully secured more than £100 million of funding through bond issuance, revolving credit facilities and grant funding, while providing regular assurance to Boards, Audit & Risk Committees and Asset Investment Committees. His experience enabled him to combine strategic financial planning with a deep understanding of governance, regulatory compliance and long-term investment decision making.
