Non-Executive Director, Technology, Incommunities
As part of its wider Board succession programme, Incommunities sought to appoint a Non-Executive Director with expertise in Digital Transformation and Customer Insight.
The Challenge
The successful candidate would need to help shape digital strategy, challenge the organisation on innovation, oversee the effective use of customer and asset data, champion digital inclusion and guide Board discussions around AI, automation and customer-centred technology. Just as importantly, they needed to translate complex technical issues into meaningful Board-level conversations that supported both governance and organisational performance.
The Solution
Neemar Search undertook a targeted search that attracted an exceptional field of senior digital, transformation and technology leaders from housing, retail, technology, financial services and the charity sector.
The wider campaign generated significant market engagement, with 23 senior digital leaders progressing through initial assessment before eight candidates completed comprehensive competency-based interviews with Neemar Search. Evaluation focused on digital transformation leadership, governance experience, customer insight, strategic judgement, innovation and cultural alignment.
Following interview, four outstanding candidates progressed to final Board panel interviews. Diversity remained a key consideration throughout the process, with the final panel comprising:
- 50% candidates from ethnically diverse backgrounds
- 25% candidates identifying as disabled
- 25% candidates with lived experience
The Outcome
The appointment of Sireesh Nallanthighal brought Incommunities a unique combination of executive technology leadership, entrepreneurial innovation and existing Board experience.
Alongside serving as Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of TheCarCrowd, Sireesh was already a Non-Executive Director at Avenues Group, where he established and chaired the organisation's Digital Committee, helping improve digital capability, customer experience and organisational efficiency.
Previously, during more than fourteen years at ALDI UK & Ireland, Sireesh led major transformation programmes impacting approximately 35,000 colleagues, managed investment programmes of up to £50 million, established a transformation function of over 200 people and led innovation projects including ALDI's first checkout-free store.
The Impact
The interview panel highlighted Sireesh's ability to communicate complex technology issues with clarity, combine technical depth with commercial judgement and provide thoughtful, collaborative challenge at Board level. His lived experience and commitment to inclusive leadership further strengthened the appointment.
Today, Sireesh brings valuable external insight to Incommunities' Board, helping shape digital transformation, customer experience and innovation while ensuring technology remains an enabler of better services, improved operational performance and stronger customer outcomes.
